During his time in acupuncture school Jonathan found that the most spiritual place for conducting treatment was at an inpatient recovery center called Penn North in West Baltimore. There, along with other students and supervisors he performed the NADA protocol (a five-point protocol of ear acupuncture) to assist with the conventional recovery methods of Penn North. Later as a licensed practitioner, he along with a handful of local acupuncturists, kept the acupuncture program at Penn North going for over a year in a pro-bono capacity when the primary source of funding was cut. That same year he initiated a program at Tranquility Woods Addiction Treatment Center in Pasadena MD that sought to expand the clinical application of acupuncture beyond the NADA protocol to a more community style with an option for individual care. At that time, it became apparent to Luke and other counselors that acupuncture, herbalism, and the wisdom contained in East Asian Medicine can be a powerful tool in a person’s recovery.
Jonathan has also had great success treating all sorts of ailments of a more general nature. He has been able to help people with a wide range of issues from respiratory ailments to stress conditions to pain management. Many people have reported improved sleep, greater ease in relationships, and an overall sense of wellbeing from treatments.
Jonathan has a conviction that people are already whole and that the various ailments we contract in our lives are like clouds covering the Sunshine. The Sun is still there, but it can be obscured. One of his professional goals is to de-stigmatize Substance Abuse Disorders and to help people contextualize their life’s experience through the lens of the medical classics of East Asia. Along with acupuncture and herbalism, it is his way of offering that rainstorms, even if they take a toll, don’t have to last forever.
Currently Jonathan is Adjunct and Clinical Faculty at Maryland University of Integrative Health. As adjunct faculty he teaches courses in the acupuncture program. As Clinical Faculty he guides students’ treatment plans in MUIH’s Natural Care Center. He looks forward to helping you navigate your life’s journey through his unique lens with Integrative Holistic, Individual Sessions, and Wellness Consultation.
