Addiction Recovery Intensive
Do You Get “Clean And Sober”, But Eventually Relapse? The Desire To Stay Sober Is There, But Your Past Attempts Haven’t Led To Long Term Sobriety?
Tired of relapses, residential treatment, and repeated failure?
Have you been unwilling to address the issues behind your addiction?
If you’re searching for a new approach to your alcohol/addiction rehabilitation, the Addiction Recovery Intensive (ARI) may be your best option.
Why Is It Always The Same Aftercare Plan?
Time and again a client has followed the aftercare recommendation from the treatment center and felt that it wasn’t that helpful. Whether it’s the Intensive Outpatient (IOP) that you didn’t find beneficial, or the new therapist referral that didn’t get to the core issues, the plan wasn’t tailored for YOUR recovery.
OR
Have you declined the aftercare recommendations from the treatment center, becase you’ve been down this road before, you feel you know what you need to do, but you just haven’t done it yet. Maybe you get 3-6 months sober and relapse because you get complacent. You know that relapse prevention treatment can’t make you clean and sober, so you think the typical form of therapy won’t lead to different results. So you say to yourself “why bother.”
Ready to Break Free from the Cycle and Feelings of Failure?
The Addiction Recovery Intensive (A.R.I.) is designed to redirect your old ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. The month-long program includes three therapy sessions a week, consisting of two individual sessions and one family or couples’ session. This cultivates and intensifies your natural change process. Being immersed in this more concentrated therapy process allows us to accomplish more with less constraints.
I use a six-point process. You are multidimensional and the Addiction Recovery Intensive program allows a deep dive into all aspects of your recovery. This can be more effective than the (insurance driven) once a week therapy model. Once a week therapy frequently turns into a therapeutic triage. Due to the complexity of addiction recovery, a mere one session a week limits in what could be explored in more depth. People often have prominent stressors that are compounded in a week’s time and must be prioritized with their therapist.
My mission is to enhance your recovery and cultivate a permanent change. You can accomplish more in less time since we don’t have to wait before we address another important point to your addiction recovery. Because the time between sessions is shortened, the A.R.I. will speed up advances in your thinking, feeling, and behaving. The intensified timeframe is designed around how your emotions really work and how humans actually change.
You May Still Have Questions About This Uniquely Tailored Treatment Option.
I Don’t Know If I Can Commit To Three Sessions A Week.
The A.R.I. program provides more individual sessions than most inpatient treatment centers in the country offer in a month. I’m also offering more family sessions than most treatment facilities do within a typical stay. If compelled, you’re investing in yourself. The time would be completely structured and tailored to you in a way that very few therapists can provide. There aren’t distractions of other residents disrupting and preventing you from getting what you want and need for your recovery.
This form of treatment requires a significant commitment. Heck, It’s in the name- Intense! I do not shy away from what this service is. It’s a rigorous approach to healing. I’m willing to exhaust the therapeutic avenues that do not always get addressed for change and growth to happen. If you’re not ready to commit to this level of intensity, if you can’t make the time for it, that’s ok. This isn’t designed for everyone. There are different levels of care for drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Some are higher intensity, and others are lower. The A.R.I. is less time than you’d devote to Residential or Inpatient Treatment (21 days to 3 months) and Intensive Outpatient addiction treatment are 9-20 hours weekly. The Addiction Recovery Intensive requires more allocated time than a Traditional Outpatient or Relapse Prevention Group which is generally once a week for approximately 1-2 hours.
Am I An Ideal Candidate For This Type Of Treatment?
If you’re still reading this than that is a good sign. The A.R.I. isn’t designed for people that are in active use. I have found that this form of psychotherapy isn’t the best agent of change when someone is in an altered state. Higher level of care is required for stabilization and weaning off substances. This program is geared for someone who is no longer using and is ready to delve deeper into the healing process. We will create space for: family dynamics, belief systems, elements of self-work, relapse prevention strategies, experiential therapy, coping skills (or lack thereof), and the benefits of spirituality. All of this and more cannot be appropriately addressed if you’re in active use. You’ll need to be abstinent throughout the intensive and be self-sufficient enough to function on your own (or with other appropriate support measures).
Prior to starting, there will be a comprehensive assessment to determine your appropriateness for the program. I see this more as a consult and discussion than a “formal” intake as required by insurance companies. We’ll meet to discover whether you and your family are appropriate for this unique program. The evaluation will give me the ability to assess your suitability and commitment while allowing time for discussion and questions. It will also give us a good time to connect and build rapport for what will be an immeasurably powerful monthlong journey for you and your family.
What If I Don’t Want My Family Or Spouse Involved In My Therapy?
If you’re feeling you don’t want the most intimate people in your life involved in your healing process, that is even more of a reason that they should be involved! All families and couples go through challenges. Addiction is like a growing cancer when it comes to the strained family system. It will manifest in the form of conflict, stress, chaos, manipulation, poor boundaries, communication, and resentment. If you’re not ready to address interpersonal relationships as it relates to your recovery, I truly believe you’re missing a HUGE piece of the equation for recovery and healing. To put it simply, the weekly family session is a requirement for this program. I combine my extensive experiences in couples/family therapy with a hopeful, down to earth, reality based, but optimistic approach. Your substance use has caused changes in your relationships. Some changes you may not even notice. The truth is, neither you nor your family member(s) are the same person since the very early stages of your addiction. The couples/family portion will help you develop important insights. When both members bring a level of commitment to finding solutions to problems within the relationship the results can be improved immensely. Change takes action. Avoiding the change can be a roadblock to success.
The couples therapy portion is an investment in your relationship. By developing healthy, lasting patterns within your family, you can significantly reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety that are red flags indicating further conflict or relapse. This makes your recovery more holistic, instead of individually specific. Additionally, taking time now to grow in the foundational portions of your healing can help you avoid potentially damaging toxic family patterns in the future.
What If My Family Member Is Not Willing To Attend The Family Portion Of The Recovery Intensive?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone with this concern. The important part is your willingness. For a multitude of reasons, a family member or spouse may not be willing to participate. Anger, hurt and fear can be reason for family opting out. During the intake assessment we’ll determine which family/spouse will be attending. It isn’t always the family member with whom you are experiencing direct conflict. We’ll discuss family member attendance during our initial meeting. I will walk you through a step-by-step process if someone is appropriate but lack the same desire that you have for participation. There are times in which I will proactively communicate directly to a family member. Frequently, this can result in their compliance.
What If The Addiction Recovery Intensive Makes Things Worse?
Deciding not to get help for your problem likely means your current version of the status quo will not be sustainable and odds are the problem will become larger overtime. Devoting yourself to this treatment will intensify healing and change. It will not make things worse. The A.R. I. will put you in position where you will recognize your pain points, place you in control of your healing, and free you from your past. You will replace toxic patterns with healthy coping skills. I will help you learn from past experiences and heal psychological traumas. We will not create new scars. Together we will replace problems with solutions, darkness with light, addiction with recovery, and pain with healing.
